Preparing for your introduction to tapestry weaving

If you’re planning on taking my online workshop at the School of SweetGeorgia (SOS) you may be wondering what you need to get started. There’s only a few staple supplies and you don’t need to invest a lot to begin with. If you DO want to get the perfect tapestry loom there is no doubt that Mirrix Looms are the way to go. We are currently having a sale on our Mirrix Looms to newsletter subscribers, so be sure to sign up there for a discount on our already competitive prices.

For my introductory tapestry weaving workshop with SOS you will need:

  • A tapestry loom

  • Warp yarn. For tapestry you need something super strong so I recommend cotton seine twine or anything called ‘wool rug warp’ online will do too. I like Halcyon Yarns’ wool rug warp.

  • Weft yarn. Any yarn will do to start, but the less bounce it has the better in my opinion. I love weaving tapestry with our Organic Merino Sport or Organic Merino Worsted. In the end you will find a yarn that you like to work with, so in the beginning it’s good to try different weft yarns.

  • A tapestry beater or dinner fork to pack your weft down.

I’m so looking forward to meeting you over at the School of SweetGeorgia soon and talking tapestry in the discussion forum there. See you soon!
