Tapestry workshop with Brooklyn Art Library

Learn the art of designing for and weaving tapestry in small-format sketchbook studies.

We will cover the elements of design to consider for small-scale tapestry using paper collage and then dive into the basics of tapestry weaving. Students will complete a collage and tapestry pairing to mount on paper.

Suggested Materials:

    • Paper or sketchbook

    • Archival glue stick

    • Scissors

    • Pencil

    • Loom. Any loom will do: frame loom, homemade cardboard loom (5”X5” piece of cardboard)

    • Yarn, at least three colourways in the same weight; fingering, DK, worsted etc.

    • Paint chips or magazine cutouts which match your yarn colourways.

    • Tapestry needle
    • Sewing needle and thread for mounting on paper.
